There are different types of job interviews as well as questions. Being prepared is the first step in making a good first impression at your interview. Having a basic understanding of what the interviewers are looking for will help you during this time of stress, and will give you the confidence to ace that interview.
Usually this is a quick phone call for two reasons - to ensure you ARE the person you say you are, and to set up a time for a meeting/interview. It also gives you a chance to possibly ask quick questions, to ensure you DO want to go to the interview. Ensure you are polite and clear. If it is not a good time for you to talk, don't be rude, but do not keep the conversation going. Yes, it is okay to say the time is not convenient to discuss much, but you would appreciate the details regarding a possible interview. Above all, be upbeat in your tone.
Often retail jobs/part time work hold a group interview. It's a fast way to get through a lot of people at one time, and see how the individuals treat others. Yes, sometimes you get an interviewer who uses this as a psychological stress point to see how you react with others. Usually it's just a quick way to interview a lot of people, especially with limited resources.
Be friendly and polite; don't be too trusting though. Everyone there wants the job; some interviewees feel this is the time to put others down so they will shine. This tactic usually does not work in their favour, and if it does, would you really want to work for a company that hires individuals that put co-workers down?
Group interviews are also a way to see who is shy and who is extroverted. Yes, usually the company is looking for more of an extrovert - someone who can talk and roll with the punches. Don't count yourself out though if you are shy - your Resume and/or Cover letter got you the interview, so there is something they liked about you/your experience!
